The Force

The other day, we attended a graduation for one of Dan's cousins. On the way there, we were talking about driving to conserve gas.

Me: For me, I think it's better to accelerate fast and then cruise once you hit your desired speed. Dan: It's better to accelerate slower. Because it requires more force to accelerate, so by doing it slowly you use less force.
Me: But if you wanted to reach 40mph, you are accelerating for only a second compared to a minute. So, isn't that better?
Dan: No, F=MA
Me: What?! That's such a nerdy answer.

Later that evening, we were having dinner with the big family. So, I told them the story...

Recent Grad: Actually, Force equals the change in mass times acceleration.

The recent graduate is going to Berkeley in the Fall and is planning to major in physics. What a nerdy family.
